In the past few years, Qualicom has been on working hard on the forefront of the restaurant POS technology in Hong Kong. Today, we are glad that our clients could enjoy the state-of-the-art application in their restaurants. (www.qualicom.com.hk )

In 2016, we anticipate that there would be more wide-spread adaptation of innovations by local, overseas and mainland restaurateurs. We would introduce them one by one for you. If you are operating a restaurant, maybe it is time for your POS to upgrade!

Payment

How does your restaurant accept payment currently?

Most of the local restaurant may only accept cash. For a few of those fast food chains, you may find them also accept Octopus card, whereas for the middle-to-high end restaurants or cafes, they also accept credit cards.

But it is now 2016, not 2000, why not accept mobile payment? There is a Tap&Go promotion by HKT recently. The idea is to pay with your mobile phone through NFC function. The Tap&Go app could link to your credit card. You could add value to the Tap&Go account from your credit card when there is not enough money in your account, which means, you can pay at the stores which support Tap&Go function even when your wallet is not with you. Seem convenient? Yes. But we know your worries, you would worry that the use is currently limited. Yes, but it could be the future.

Octopus card’s Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) is actually quite a similar option, but it seems that Octopus would have less limits on the users and stores. However, Tap&Go do not need a card when processing payment, they only need a phone. From this stand-point, the Tap&Go service still has its advantage.

Another payment method is Tencent’s WeChat Wallet which would be able to use in Hong Kong in 2016 according to online news. Although Sa Sa Cosmetics has adopted this payment methods in their Hong Kong stores last year. However, it is not a popular adoption yet as they are the first global retail partner of tencent’s new offline WeChat-based cross-border payment service, TenPay. There are still many rooms for improvements and adaptations of this payment method in the market. Besides, due to the grown popularity of Wechat among the globe, and more Hong Kong people have got Wechat installed in their phone, we believe once the Tencent’s Wechat Wallet is ready to support Hong Kong, there would be more restaurants looking for this payment function in their POS.

Qualicom has experienced in developing hotel booking feature on Wechat for one of the largest chain hotels in China. We anticipated that there would be more need for Wechat payment integration with our POS system soon, both in Hong Kong and mainland.
